The Florida Gators received some good news when it comes to the health of quarterback DJ Lagway, after the Freshman left Saturday's game against the Georgia Bulldogs with a hamstring injury.
Things didn't look good for the 19-year-old when he was carted off the field with what head coach Billy Napier believed was a significant injury at the time.
Those worries have been put to bed, with Napier telling reporters on Monday that there is a chance Lagway could play this week when the Gators take on the No.5 Texas Longhorns.
"The good news is we have positive information on that front," Napier stated. "We do think that the injury is less significant, we do think there's a pathway for recovery and a return."
Gators battled in Lagway's absence
Lagway suffered the injury in the second quarter, having thrown for 47 yards and a touchdown before leaving the game.
Few would have thought the Gators would keep pace with the Bulldogs after that, but that's exactly what happened after Aidan Warner took over and the Gators headed into halftime with a 13-6 lead.
In the end Warner finished the game 7 of 22 for 66 yards and an interception, with the Bulldogs going on to win 34-20, adding another loss to what has been a disappointing season for Florida.
Although the Gators still have a shot of becoming bowl eligible, there are plenty of fans who want to see Lagway sit out until he is fully healthy given his importance to the program.
"Just take the medical redshirt and get a full 4 years out of him please!" one fan wrote, with another writing: "Lagway or NO WAY."
"Better take it slow; that hamstring ain't no joke," wrote another, with some suggesting that Napier's time as head coach of the Gators is coming to an end anyways.
Things just haven't gone Napier's way since taking over the Gators in 2022, with rumors persisting that the school is in talks of a buyout that would cost over $26 million.
Florida currently sit with a 4-4 record and close out their season with games against Texas, LSU, Ole Miss and Florida State.
