- NCAA. Deion Sanders can't hide his dad pride as Shedeur Sanders' talent shines through
- NCAA. Travis Hunter poised to shock fans ahead of Colorado's season-defining stretch
The Colorado Buffaloes enter this week ranked 21st in the AP College Football Poll, and depending on the outcome of today's pivotal game against Patrick Mahomes' alma mater, Texas Tech, we'll know whether their chances of playing in a bowl game increase or decrease. The Buffaloes, led by Deion Sanders, haven't played in a bowl game since 2020, when they lost to the Texas Longhorns in the Alamo Bowl. Keep in mind that starting this year, the new 12-team playoff format expands from the four-team format used from 2014 through 2023.
"Travis Gets My Vote": Sanders' on the Heisman Race
With his son Shedeur Sanders as the team's quarterback, Deion Sanders often receives praise about him - a sentiment that is well-deserved if you've followed the season and seen the impressive level of play Shedeur has delivered. He has thrown for 2,591 yards with 21 touchdown es and six interceptions for a 73% completion rate. Deion has shown clear iration for his son on many occasions, as well as Heisman Trophy candidate and dual-threat player Travis Hunter.
This time, Deion was asked before the game on the Big Noon Kickoff show who would get his vote for the Heisman. Without hesitation, he replied, "Travis gets my vote. While this answer was no surprise, it's clear that Deion continues to shower his players with praise.
Colorado's Playoff Push
I don't think anyone expected a different answer - Travis has been with Deion for many years and has watched him grow up like one of his own sons. His stats this season are impressive: 60 receptions for 757 yards, eight touchdown catches, 21 total tackles, two interceptions and a forced fumble. As Deion put it, "He's doing something that has never been done before. That's why I'm hoping the Buffaloes can win their remaining four games, including today's, to give Travis a shot at the spotlight in a bowl game - ideally a playoff bowl game at the end of the year.
With six wins so far, the Buffaloes have already had their best season since 2016, when they won 10 games and played in the Alamo Bowl. With four winnable games left, it's not unrealistic to think the Buffaloes could finish in the top 12 if they win out and get some favorable results from other teams.
