NFL icon calls for fans to look past Deion Sanders in Heisman Trophy quest

Chad Johnson, affectionately known as Ochocinco, calls for fans to look at Travis Hunter with an open mind as the Colorado Buffaloes' star continues his quest for the Heisman Trophy whilst being coached by Deion Sanders.

Coach Prime is known for his unconventional methods and his divisive personality, being unafraid to speak his mind, what has left him a bit like marmite to millions of Americans over the years.

And now Ocho calls for influential voters to simply observe the 21-year-old with their own two eyes instead of making reservations of judgement based on their opinion of Sanders, stressing Hunter's talented enough to win.

"I don't want those that are in positions of power," Ocho began to the Nightcap podcast. "I don't want voters that are voting for the Heisman to allow their hatred or their dislike for Prime, his coaching style, and the way he carries himself... to affect that of the players that are deserving of that Heisman. Especially the number 12.

"Let's not do that, let's not be egregious because of your personal vendetta against a head coach that's done a [f**king] phenomenal job."

Hunter has posted 911 yards and 74 receptions in 2024 as a wide receiver, whilst also going for nine touchdowns too. But he's not a one-trick pony.

Also starring as a cornerback, he's made 16 solo tackles, seven assisted, eight deflections, a forced fumble, three interceptions and one for a touchdown too.

That has catapulted him firmly into the Heisman Trophy conversation and he seems as though he's destined to be a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, with the Jacksonville Jaguars reportedly interested.

Who do the Buffaloes play next?

The Buffaloes will head to the Arrowhead Stadium on November 23 to take on the Kansas Jayhawks in a clash that will be aired live on FOX Sports from 14:30 ET/11:30 PT.

The Buffaloes hold an 8-2 overall record and 6-1 within the Big 12 Conference as they chase down the BYU Cougars with two games to go.
