Nick Saban's spirit lives on in Alabama

On a recent episode of the New Wave Podcast, hosted by Alabama wide receiver Ryan Williams and fellow standout Jaylen Mbakwe, Alabama defensive back Bray Hubbard shared a humorous yet poignant memory of Saban's coaching style.

Hubbard recalled a bye-week practice during preparations for a game against Kentucky, where a missed call during drills earned him a fiery rebuke.

"He was like, '18, what are you doing? You're just worried about going home!'"

Hubbard said, imitating Saban's tone.

"He said, 'There ain't nothing there!'"

The room erupted with laughter, but Hubbard emphasized that Saban's intense approach was more than tough love-it was a lesson in discipline and ability.

The story didn't end there.

Hubbard revealed a lighter side of Saban in an exchange following practice.

"He was like, 'Man, have fun in Mississippi,' and I was like, 'There ain't nothing there,'"

Hubbard shared, laughing at the mutual banter.

Moments like these demonstrated Saban's ability to balance his legendary toughness with humor, forging strong bonds with his players.

Ryan Williams, Alabama's 17-year-old star receiver and host of the podcast, couldn't help but chime in.

"I wouldn't be able to hold it together,"Williams said, imagining Saban's intense delivery.

Hubbard added another anecdote about Saban's famous temper: "Man, when he throws his hat, he throws that hat a mile! And he's coming after you too."

As Alabama pushes toward the playoffs with an 8-2 record, Saban's legacy is still deeply embedded in the team's culture.

Williams himself embodies this mindset.

A semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award, Williams has tallied 767 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns this season.

His explosive performances have bolstered Alabama's playoff hopes and solidified his status as one of college football's brightest stars.
