For most college athletes, balancing academics, sports, and personal life is a monumental challenge. For Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, that challenge left little time to simply enjoy college football as a fan this season.

On a recent episode of his 2Legendary podcast, the Johnny Unitas Award winner revealed he has barely watched any college football outside of his own games.

"A lot of these teams... I haven't really watched college football this year at all," Sanders itted. "Cause we've got our games... it's hard to watch. I watch Cam [Ward] cause I know [him]... [and] I'm watching the NFL... but yeah, I don't know who's gonna win it all."

While he may not be following the games as a fan, Sanders is certainly watching plenty of film as part of his preparation as Colorado's star quarterback. His unique perspective as a player has given him insight that the average college football fan may never experience.

Colorado's close call with the college football playoffs

Colorado's 2024 season was one of dramatic highs and a few tough lows. With a 9-3 record, the Buffaloes were on the edge of making it into the expanded College Football Playoff (CFP).

In previous years, the CFP format only allowed four teams to compete for the national championship. But under the new system, which debuted this season, 12 teams now have a chance to battle for the title.

Colorado's final game of the regular season held significant weight. With a bit of luck, the Buffaloes could have found themselves in contention for an automatic CFP bid, possibly even facing their Alamo Bowl opponent, BYU, for a spot in the playoff.

Unfortunately for Sanders and his team, the pieces didn't fall into place.
