- NCAA. Shedeur Sanders accepts his role and surrenders to Travis Hunter: Legendary
- NCAA. Shedeur Sanders has to hide in front of Travis Hunter when asked to explain one of his latest videos
In just the past week, Travis Hunter has achieved unprecedented success, winning the Ronnie Lott IMPACT Award, being named to both the All-America and Academic All-America teams, and earning the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year award.
But his most eye-popping achievements came on Thursday when he made history by becoming the first player in college football history to win both the Biletnikoff Award (best wide receiver) and the Bednarik Award (best defensive player) in the same season.
For perspective, the Biletnikoff Award typically goes to elite receivers, while the Bednarik Award is reserved for standout defensive players. For Hunter to claim both titles in one season is a feat never before accomplished in the sport's history.
As if that wasn't enough, Hunter's dominant performance this year has made him the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy on Saturday.
Hunter's impact on the field
Hunter's ability to play on both sides of the ball has captivated the nation. As a wide receiver, he led the Big 12 with 92 catches and 14 touchdowns, making him one of the most dangerous offensive threats in college football. But it's his defensive prowess that truly sets him apart.
Playing as a cornerback, Hunter has shut down top wideouts across the conference while making game-changing interceptions and key tackles.
This ability to seamlessly switch roles between offense and defense has made Hunter a modern-day football marvel. His influence is already being felt in the NFL draft conversation, where scouts have him pegged as a potential No. 1 overall pick in 2025.
Alongside his quarterback, Shedeur Sanders, the Colorado duo is projected to be one of the first pairs of college teammates to go 1-2 in the draft, according to early mock drafts.
On an episode of "The Pivot" podcast with Fred Taylor, Channing Crowder and Ryan Clark, Hunter shared his thoughts on why top recruits should consider ing Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes.
"I'd probably say the coaches," he noted. "Without the coaches, I would not be having no money in my pocket. They put us in the brightest, on the highest stage. Being around Coach Prime has just made me so much money because, you know, he's been there before, they understand where he's coming from."
