Is Bill Belichick about to break his commitment to UNC to return to the NFL? The evidence says no. On the contrary, the way the legendary coach is putting together his coaching staff, it seems he has a long stay in Chapel Hill planned, and his latest move seems to confirm it.

Speculation about Belichick's imminent return to the NFL has not stopped, even after g with the University of North Carolina (UNC). The recent Black Monday only fueled the rumors, linking the former New England Patriots coach to one team or another.

Not even a recent post from his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, reaffirming his commitment to UNC has stopped the rumors. However, a new rumor seemingly debunked those especulations, as it claims he's about to add a new cog to his machine, stealing it from one of the Tar Heels' biggest rivals in the ACC, the Louisville Cardinals.

Belichick is in full poacher mode

According to a report from Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, Belichick has his sights set on none other than Garrick McGee. The Cardinals' wide receivers coach has vast experience in college football, and the UNC helmsman wants to poach him for his team.

McGee began his coaching career at Langston University as an assistant coach. Since then, he has worked with 13 teams, mostly as a WRs or QBs coach, with a brief stint as head coach at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).

If Belichick has his way, McGee would be the third addition to a less-than-spectacular coaching staff that includes his son Stephen Belichick as defensive coordinator and former Cleveland Browns coach Freddie Kitchens as offensive coordinator.

What's next for Belichick

The 2025 NCAA season is still nearly nine months away. However, Belichick already knows that his first game will be against the TCU Horned Frogs. Then, he'll visit the Charlotte 49ers, and in Week 3, he'll host the Richmond Spiders.

It still seems a long way off, but if there's one thing that sets Bill Belichick apart, it's that he doesn't waste time, as evidenced by his reported pursuit of McGee. It remains to be seen if the six-time NFL champion achieves his goal and who else he'll target in these eight months.
