While Shedeur Sanders has been vocal about his athleticism and speed, not everyone is convinced he can match, or even come close to, his father Deion Sanders's iconic 4.27-second 40-yard dash time. NFL analyst Todd McShay addressed this skepticism on the Bill Simmons Podcast, where he expressed serious doubts about the young quarterback's ability to break 4.8 seconds, let alone challenge his father's record.
"It's the biggest surprise you'll see," McShay said. "He's talking about running faster than his dad, but if he ran a 40 today, I don't even know if he'd break 4.8 seconds."
McShay's comments add fuel to an ongoing debate about Shedeur's physical capabilities, as well as his overall potential in the NFL Draft. The analyst also pointed out that some teams aren't even grading him as a first-round pick, casting further uncertainty over his stock.
NFL scouts split on Shedeur's draft value
Beyond the speed debate, concerns about Shedeur's draft position continue to grow. McShay highlighted that many teams unwilling to draft him have been vocal about their stance, hinting that his projected value might not be as high as some believe. While Shedeur is still regarded as a talented prospect, questions remain about whether he is truly a top-tier quarterback in this year's class.
Meanwhile, his brother Shilo Sanders is taking a different approach to proving himself. After being left out of the NFL ScoutingCombine, Shilo organized his own timing session in Boulder, using official timers to showcase his speed. "I didn't get invited to the combine, but I brought the combine to me," Shilo said in a video, emphasizing his determination to make an impression on NFL scouts.
Giants' scouting presence fuels speculation
Despite the mixed opinions on Shedeur's draft stock, the New York Giants have shown consistent interest. According to NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah, the team had scouts at every single Colorado game last season, closely monitoring Shedeur's performance.
"They had a presence at every single Colorado game this year," Jeremiah revealed on the 40s and Free Agents podcast. "They were tracking Shedeur Sanders all season long."
With the No. 3 overall pick, the Giants are in a prime position to make a move for Shedeur. However, with Miami'sCam Ward also in the mix as a top quarterback prospect, it remains uncertain whether New York will take the gamble. If they on Sanders, teams like the Raiders, Jets, and Saints could still be potential landing spots. Either way, Shedeur's draft journey is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing storylines of the offseason.
