The top of the 2025 NFL Draft is always subject to intrigue and speculation, but this year's crop of players could shake up the NFL in unforeseen ways. There is no clear-cut #1 player in this year's class, though the Tennessee Titans are trending toward selecting Miami quarterback Cam Ward with the first pick on April 24. After that, though? Well, it may as well be anyone's guess.

This somewhat-chaotic climate represents a chance for a team like the Dallas Cowboys to leap up the board and snag a blue-chip prospect. With a bunch of teams keeping their options open and ostensibly willing to do business at the right price, the Cowboys' chances to acquire a player of Travis Hunter's caliber isn't so far-fetched.

Hunter trade proposals floated amid uncertainty atop the draft

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been more willing to invest in his team this offseason, in response to Dallas' miserable 7-10 season in 2024. If Hunter "escapes" the top three in the draft and is available on the fringe of the top five, 105.3 The Fan's Bryan Broaddus believes that a package including the 12th overall pick, plus second- and fifth-round picks in this draft, could entice the Jacksonville Jaguars to cede the #5 pick -- opening the door for Dallas to take the wildly-talented two-way star Hunter.

As veteran reporter Ed Werder pointed out on X/Twitter, Hunter is the only player in this draft who can address the Cowboys' two biggest needs: a #2 option at wide receiver, and a #2 option at cornerback. But the cost of moving up to get him may not be one Jones is willing to pay in the end -- which would prompt yet more frustration with his methods from expectant Cowboys fans, desperate for Dallas to end its 29-year Super Bowl drought.
