The times are changing in Boulder. Following a 9-4 season in which Deion Sanders seemed to truly turn around the program, the Colorado Buffaloes will need to hit the reset button again in 2025. The team has lost crucial players, none more important than Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter. Coach Prime has been working hard to keep adding talent to the roster, through recruiting and the transfer portal, but a rebuild could be on the way.
With so many question marks coming into the 2025 season, it would be smart for Sanders to keep an eye on the future. Recruiting future players is a 24/7 process, and Sanders knows it. In order to contend in future seasons, the work must be put in years in advance. That's exactly what Colorado is hard at work at, and 2026 is looking promising, especially if they secure a specific offensive weapon.
Gavin Mueller heavily favored to Deion Sanders at Colorado
According to On3's Steve Wiltfong, Colorado is predicted to secure Gavin Mueller, a four-star tight end prospect. Wiltfong is the former Director of Recruiting at 247Sports and covers the recruiting process on a year-long basis, so his prediction shouldn't be taken with a grain of salt.
Mueller is the 34th-ranked tight end in the nation on 247Sports' 2026 class list. Standing 6-foot-6 and weighing 250 pounds, Mueller has the potential to blossom into a star under Sanders.
Colorado eyeing Mueller could be a sign of an offensive shift coming under Sanders and offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur. The team got almost literally zero production from the tight end position in 2024. Sam Hart played in six games and was the only tight end to record any stats: 1 reception for -1 yards.

With the team losing their top four wide receivers from a year ago, the offense could look a whole lot different starting in 2025 and heading into 2026. Mueller could be a player Shurmur builds the offense around once he's in the building.
