It has been a whirlwind post-NFL career for former New York Giants player, Blake Martinez, with the former footballer starting a Pokemon trading card business when he left the game.
As part of a new business venture, Martinez started reselling the trading cards, however this has led him down a rather shady path.
One of the major recognized marketplaces for trading card sales is accusing Martinez of being a scammer, and not selling cards in good faith.
WhatNot released a statement on Martinez's behavior
WhatNot remains one of the most prominent card marketplaces around at this moment, and they had been made aware of potentially illegal activity by Blake Martinez and investigated the matter.
After looking into the situation, the company then released a statement on Martinez's behavior.
"After a comprehensive investigation into Blakesbreaks' operations, we have decided to permanently remove the seller from our platform, including the individual employees involved in misconduct," WhatNot's statement read.
"We have refunded all buyers impacted by the infractions. If you believe you were affected by an incident on his streams, please submit the details and we will investigate."
What exactly did Blake Martinez do?
The company in question didn't reveal any information about what Martinez had apparently done to be banned, however internet s have filled in the blanks.
According to a video posted to Reddit, Martinez's company would trade out the contents of higher-level packs and replace them with lesser-valued items, leaving some s to accuse Martinez of being a scammer.
"Even former NFL players will scam you on WhatNot," were the words used by 'Rattle Pokemon'.
Blake Martinez, however, has launch a powerful defense of his company, suggesting that the images look far worse than the reality.
"I understand the optics. I understand how it looks, trust me," Martinez explained on a live stream.
"I know the type of business I run, I made a good amount of money... everybody knows, in the NFL... I knew stepping into this was going to have a target on my back."
