With Deshaun Watson - the 2024 starter - recovering from his Achilles injury, the Cleveland Browns will have a difficult decision to make on who will fill the starting quarterback job.
During the 2025 NFL Draft, the team selected Dillon Gabriel with the 94th pick and fifty spots later, Shedeur Sanders at 144th. Despite being 2024 Heisman candidates, the competition would be on for the QB job.
They are ed by veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett, who were already on the team before the draft. And while both have demonstrated their skills and strengths, the Browns don't have a clear starter at the moment.
Cowherd's word
However, NFL analyst Colin Cowherd ires the preparation that Shedeur possesses and doubted about Gabriel's abilities to succeed in the NFL, so he is leaning towards the son of "Coach Prime" to take the QB spot and let it be known in The Herd:
I believe this, that Dillon Gabriel was a reach. I don't think he is an NFL QB of note.
In his preference for Sanders, Cowherd did not hesitate to highlight the qualities of his candidate for the position, but he did not forget his weaknesses either:
I think Shedeur's gonna win the job. I don't think he's great but I think he's accurate, and he moves well enough.
Sanders and Gabriel's numbers
Former Oregon and Oklahoma back Dillon Gabriel finished third in Heisman Trophy voting last season, throwing for 3,857 yards and 30 touchdowns.
Sanders, meanwhile, ranked 8th for the Heisman Trophy, throwing for 3,926 yards and 35 touchdowns for Colorado Buffaloes (4 touchdowns on the ground).
