- NFL. Micah Parsons predicts CeeDee Lamb's future amid Cowboys contract talks
- NFL. After all the beef, Brandon Aiyuk is set to stay in San Francisco despite the hard feelings
In the top 10 of NFL wide receivers with the highest contract values, seven have been signed during this offseason. Leading the pack is Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings, now holding the number one spot with a $140 million contract. Jefferson, arguably the best receiver in the league right now, also became the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history at the time of g. Following closely at number three is Amon-Ra St. Brown of the Detroit Lions with a $120 million deal, and at number four is DJ Moore of the Chicago Bears with a $110 million contract, making history as the first NFL receiver to have the first 10 years of his career guaranteed.
Too Good to Go Unpaid
With so many receivers securing the bag this year, one might expect Dallas Cowboys' CeeDee Lamb, who led the league in receptions last season, and Brandon Aiyuk of the Super Bowl runner-up San Francisco 49ers to be on that list as well. However, their contract disputes remain unresolved, with just three weeks until the start of the season. Justin Jefferson, the top-paid receiver, and who set the bar this high for the WR to get paid, offered some advice on Dianna Russini's podcast "Scoop City," saying, "I would just say don't let it distract you from what you're good at, which is playing football."
Jefferson also mentioned, "Money wasn't a big thing for me; I knew that the money was going to come when it comes." While this advice is welcome from someone with the best contract, the issue for Lamb and Aiyuk isn't a lack of focus on football. Instead, they both play for teams with highly paid and talented rosters, leaving Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and 49ers general manager John Lynch in difficult situations.
CeeDee Lamb Saga
CeeDee Lamb (25) is coming off a career year where he led the league with 135 receptions last season, scored 13 touchdowns, and finished second in yards with 1,749, just behind Tyreek Hill. In his four seasons with the Cowboys, Lamb has played in 66 games, averaging 78 yards per game, with 395 receptions and 32 touchdowns. His talent is undeniable, but the problem he faces, though he shouldn't have to, is that Dak Prescott (31) is in the final year of his contract, with his next deal likely to be around $55 million per year. It's not just Prescott; 2021 defensive rookie of the year Micah Parsons (25) will also need to sign a new contract with the Cowboys next year, which is expected to be the biggest ever for a defensive player. Parsons has averaged 13 sacks per year over his three seasons and has been instrumental in the Cowboys' 12-5 record during his time.
Brandon Aiyuk Saga
Brandon Aiyuk is coming off two stellar seasons with the 49ers, finishing seventh in receiving yards last year with 1,342 and catching seven touchdowns, just one short of his 2022 total. Like Lamb, Aiyuk faces the challenge of playing on a team with several highly paid players. His teammates Deebo Samuel (WR), Christian McCaffrey (RB), George Kittle (TE), and Nick Bosa (DE) are all among the top ten highest-paid players at their respective positions, and it won't be long before Brock Purdy needs to sign an extension. While Aiyuk's future with the 49ers seems likely, according to his teammates, until he signs a new deal, his future remains uncertain.
