The Philadelphia Eagles will kick off the 2025 NFL season on September 4 at Lincoln Financial Field against their fiercest rival, the Dallas Cowboys, in a highly anticipated matchup. As is tradition, the Super Bowl champions will host the season opener. The Eagles are aiming to extend their streak of four consecutive seasons with 11 or more wins. This feat was last achieved from 2000 to 2004 under head coach Andy Reid.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys are coming off a disappointing 2024 campaign and are looking to rebound under their new head coach, Brian Schottenheimer, who served as offensive coordinator for the past two years. In a competitive NFC, where both the Washington Commanders and the Eagles reached the conference championship last season, the Cowboys face an uphill battle to reclaim their standing.

Cowboys Mocking Eagles' Defensive Back

A recent video captured Dallas Cowboys young stars Micah Parsons and CeeDee Lamb engaging in preseason trash talk targeting Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Quinyon Mitchell. Reading from social media, Parsons couldn't resist dubbing Mitchell "Quinyonimo Bay," a playful nod to Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. Lamb retorted, "Stop the cap. I ain't never been locked down." This exchange showcases the Cowboys' confidence as they head into the new season, especially since Mitchell and Cooper DeJean earned spots on the All-Rookie Team and helped the Eagles secure a championship in 2024.

Last season, the Eagles dominated the Cowboys, winning both games by a combined score of 75-13. In the game he played against them without Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb had just six receptions for 21 yards on 10 targets. Now for this season with Prescott back and the addition of George Pickens as WR2, a revamped running game featuring Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams, and Schottenheimer's familiarity with the system, the Cowboys' offense appears ready to make a comeback.

However, the defense will be tested against the potent offenses of the Commanders and Eagles, who will challenge them twice this year as division rivals.

Mitchell had an impressive rookie season, shutting down opposing receivers and contributing to the Eagles' championship run. The Eagles had the best defense last season. While lighthearted, the Cowboys' comments underscore the intensity of the rivalry, especially with the season opener looming. Lamb's denial of being "locked down" by Mitchell is bold, considering the Eagles' dominance last year. However, it also reflects the Cowboys' determination to turn the tide.

A Season Loaded with Prime-Time Showdowns

The Cowboys' schedule is packed with prime-time opportunities, with a total of five additional games beyond the season opener. The Eagles have four more. Dallas will play on Thursday night a staggering four times, including the NFL's kickoff game. Following their early-season clash with the Eagles, the next game between the two teams will be on Sunday afternoon in Week 12, when the Eagles come to town. That will be followed by a Thanksgiving Day showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 13. The challenging stretch continues in Week 14 with a Thursday night game in Detroit. These high-stakes matchups will be crucial for the Cowboys as they seek to prove their mettle against top competition.

For Mitchell and the Eagles, the repeated encounters with Dallas provide opportunities to strengthen their defensive reputation, particularly as the Cowboys' offense strives to improve. The stage is set for a season filled with rivalry, redemption, and primetime drama, with every game carrying significant weight in the NFC standings.
