According to official announcements and highly credible media reports, all 32 NFL teams have already filled the head coaching position for the 2022 season and after the announcement that Lovie Smith will be the one to fill that position for the Houston Texans, it has become a fact that Brian Flores will not be one of those 32 strategists.

Brian Flores, finalist for Texans job

Flores, who, according to multiple reports, was considered one of the finalists along with former NFL quarterback Josh McCown for the vacancy in "Space City", sued the NFL and three teams (Miami Dolphins, New York Giants and Denver Broncos) for alleged racist practices against him in the hiring process for the head coaching vacancies, among other incidents.

According to the former Miami head coach's lawyers, the reason Flores did not obtain the position held by Smith has nothing to do with professional merit.

The words of Flores' lawyers

"Mr. Flores is happy to hear that the Texans have hired a Black head coach, Lovie Smith, as Mr. Flores' goal in bringing his case is to provide real opportunities for Black and minority candidates to be considered for coaching and executive positions within the NFL," attorneys Douglas H. Wigdor and John Elefterakis wrote in a statement. "However, we would be remiss not to mention that Mr. Flores was one of three finalists for the Texans' head coach position and, after a great interview and mutual interest, it is obvious that the only reason Mr. Flores was not selected was his decision to stand up against racial inequality across the NFL."

Like Flores, Lovie Smith is a black coach and only he and Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers hold positions on all 32 NFL teams in a league in which 70% of its players are justly black.
