With seven games left in the 2024 regular season, we're getting close to being able to write the book on Patrick Mahomes' season. Simply put, this has been Mahomes' worst season since he took over as the Kansas City Chiefs' starting quarterback in 2018. His touchdown percentage is the lowest of any season, while his interception percentage is way higher than normal. Despite completing a career-high 69.5% of his es, everything else has been worse.

Mahomes hasn't been able to limit turnovers and hasn't created big plays in the ing game. The team has gotten Travis Kelce going after a slow start and Xavier Worthy flashed his potential in Week 11. To go along with the addition of DeAndre Hopkins, some of the early season woes should have been ironed out by now, but they haven't. That showed up in the Chiefs' first loss of the season against the Buffalo Bills last week.

The Chiefs are 9-1 so it's not all doom and gloom, but Mahomes' performance so far this season remains a surprise, especially when you consider even his own division rivals. Justin Herbert is playing at an MVP level under new head coach Jim Harbaugh for the Los Angeles Chargers. It's not shocking since Herbert exploded onto the NFL scene in his rookie year in 2020, but he's easily been the best QB in the AFC West.

But perhaps more eye-opening has been the play of Bo Nix, the rookie starter for the Denver Broncos. Nix was just named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week following a 300-yard, four-touchdown game against the Atlanta Falcons. Fans have started to notice Nix might genuinely be outplaying Mahomes this season.

Mahomes has the edge in of ing touchdowns (15 to 14) and yards, but Nix is contributing more with his legs and has four rushing scores to Mahomes' one.

A lot goes into quarterback play and numbers don't tell the full story, but it's not like Nix has world beaters as his weapons. Considering how good Herbert (26 years old) and Nix (24) look right now, it's a concern for the Chiefs going into the future.
