He did not see this one coming

This one is a problem for Michael Thomas' future in the NFL. The former New Orleans Saints wide receiver has been suspended by the league after violating NFL rules and he will not be available for the first week of the regular season.

While he is still a free agent, the possibility of him being on a team for Week 1 is remote after this, especially after what he has done in the past that led to his free agent status in the first place.

He finished the 2023 season only with 9 catches for 448 yards and one touchdown in 10 games played. Interestingly enough, this was the highest number of games he played since the 2019 season when he won the Offensive Player of the Year award.

A promising career now in jeopardy

Michael Thomas impacted the league since he came in, but his career derailed as of late. He had 92 receptions in 2016 and after that he cleared the century mark in that statistic for the following seasons, but then injuries and bad behavior took a toll on him.

With that said, the 31-year-old wide receiver still has a lot of talent and could draw attention from teams in need of a wideout with experience, but the fact that he is suspended to start the season will not help.

The first week of the season will begin on September 5 when the Baltimore Ravens visit the Kansas City Chiefs on a Thursday Night Football opener and the last game of Week 1 will be the New York Jets taking on the San Francisco 49ers.
