Although they have not made any formal statements on the matter, the Pittsburgh Steelers are keeping open the possibility that Aaron Rodgers will be their starting quarterback in 2025. The franchise is still waiting for the four-time Most Valuable Player to decide his future, but it seems the team has lost patience and is moving on to Plan B.
This is understandable, as Rodgers hasn't shown many signs lately of g with the Steelers. Pittsburgh is no longer insisting and will move on to another alternative that is sure to be the talk of the NFL world.
Their offseason moves have been highly questioned, with experts and fans considering them very "meh."
Darius Slay, Malik Harrison, Kaleb Johnson, and Derrick Harmon only generate more uncertainty about the quarterback they need to compete and aspire to great things.
While it's true that Mason Rudolph will return and Will Howard may earn an opportunity, neither looks like a reliable option for a team that struggles on offense.
The Steelers ghosted Aaron Rodgers: Pittsburgh is ready to implement "Plan B"
Pro Football Network expert Brentley Weissman revealed what the Steelers may be working on behind the scenes.
"The Pittsburgh Steelers decided not to draft a quarterback last year, but I expect them to be in the market in 2026. Fortunately for them, next year's class has many potential options."
"Drew Allar is a controversial prospect. I actually like him a lot more than his draft position suggests. I think he has a chance to be a top three pick in next year's draft. He has all the physical qualities you're looking for. He played well in Penn State's biggest games last season without much help from his receivers. If he steps up, watch out," Weissman reported.
Drew Allar is the long-term target
If Will Howard doesn't impress, the Steelers could select Allar in 2026. Despite being a potential first-round pick in 2025, Allar stayed at Penn State. In 2024, he threw for 3,327 yards and 24 touchdowns and rushed for 302 yards and six touchdowns. His accuracy, strength, and mobility make him an ideal fit for Pittsburgh, his home state.
