- Pittsburgh Steelers. Will Howard would be happy to play and compete with Aaron Rodgers on the Pittsburgh Steelers
It's been over two months since the NFL free agency window opened, and Aaron Rodgers remains unsigned.
The 41-year-old quarterback visited the Pittsburgh Steelers back in March, sparking speculation that the four-time MVP could be headed to the AFC North. However, Rodgers has not offered any public update on his future, leaving fans and teams alike in limbo.
Art Rooney weighs in on Rodgers situation
Steelers owner Art Rooney II had previously stated that the team wouldn't wait indefinitely for Rodgers to make a decision.
This week, during the league's annual meetings, Rooney provided an update that was essentially a repeat of his earlier stance.
When asked how much longer Pittsburgh is willing to wait, he said, "A little while longer. I'll say the same thing."
With organized team activities (OTAs) set to begin next week and a mandatory three-day minicamp scheduled to wrap up the offseason program on June 10, time is running short for the Steelers if they want Rodgers to get in some reps before training camp.
While Rodgers hasn't committed to any team, he has addressed his extended absence from football.
Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show in April, Rodgers cited personal matters as the primary reason for his delay.
"I have a couple people in my inner, inner circle who are battling some difficult stuff,"
Rodgers explained.
He emphasized that his focus since January has been on ing his loved ones.
More recently, during an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, Rodgers revealed that several people close to him are battling cancer, an emotional burden he implied has taken precedence over football.
Despite the uncertainty, optimism remains within the Steelers organization.
Ian O'Connor, author of a recent biography on Rodgers, predicted that the quarterback would report to Pittsburgh in time for the June minicamp.
"If I had $100 to put down, my feeling is he will be in uniform June 10th," O'Connor said on a local radio show.
If Rodgers does ultimately sign, he would be expected to step in as Pittsburgh's starting quarterback, ahead of Mason Rudolph, Will Howard, and Skylar Thompson.
While questions remain about his long-term health and motivation, many around the league believe Rodgers still has what it takes to lead a team.
For now, all eyes remain on Pittsburgh as the team-and its fan base-waits just "a little while longer."
