The Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games could have another 'Dream Team'. The decision to include flag football among the Olympic sports caused a great shock among NFL franchises that now have to make a final decision on their stars
On Wednesday, they will announce whether, as expected, they will give their players the freedom to choose whether or not they want to be Olympians. There is a lot of money at stake and it seems that the decision will be affirmative. However, they will set some rules:
- Limit the participation of NFL players: only one player per franchise in each national team
- Allow the designated international player of a national team to play for his country of origin
- Acquisition of million-dollar insurance policies
- Salary cap credit for any NFL player who suffers an injury
- Medical personnel, field surfaces and distances that meet NFL minimum standards
- A schedule that does not conflict with league and franchise commitments.
Most of the stars want to represent their country in Los Angeles. In fact, Patrick Mahomes, surely the best football player in the world, was quick to take a stand: "I definitely want to do it, I'll try to go out and throw the ball in the Games."
"That would be amazing"
It's a unique opportunity and the players know it.Tyreek Hill, the Miami Dolphins' star receiver, also wants to take on the challenge and go for gold."It would be amazing to put together a super team to compete in the Olympics."
But there's more. Just a few months ago, Micah Parsons, the Cowboys' linebacker, considered one of the great defenders in the NFL, surprised everyone by revealing that he wants to focus on the Games. "After 2027 I will take a break from football to prepare for the Olympic Games!"
That said, this time the United States could enjoy two 'Dream Teams' at their Games. It is all in the hands of the franchise owners who will democratically vote whether to allow their stars to participate in Los Angeles 2028. For the sake of the show, let's hope they say yes
