If you want to improve your aim on PS5, whether in action, shooting or adventure games, there are a number of settings that can help you a lot. In fact, more than one trick, today we want to offer you a few, since it is possible that you have already applied some of these strategies or that they do not suit you.

Before you start, however, I want to give you a rather unique piece of advice. There is a very simple method that can help you shoot better without aiming: draw a dot in the center of the screen. Use a marker that can be erased.

Then, in the centre of the screen, make a dot. If you don't know where to aim, just point and the game will tell you where the centre is for you. Now, what is this for? Well, for example, to know where the shots are going when you shoot from cover without aiming.

Knowing where the center is will help you discern the approximate shooting area. It's not foolproof, but it can help you in some cases. Just make sure that the marker you use is not harmful to your screen and that it can be easily erased. If you're not sure, it's best to skip this tip and move on to the rest.

These are some of the methods to improve your accuracy on PS5

Here are some tricks you can follow, although most of them are settings adjustments rather than anything else. Keep in mind that they are not absolute and what has worked for me, by play style, may not quite suit you.

This is why, as I mention in some sections, I recommend that you try custom profiles in case you are not happy with the settings.

Set the dead zone

The dead zone is the space in which the joysticks do not movement. A dead zone that is too large can make movements feel sluggish, while one that is too small can pick up unwanted movements.

  • How to adjust it: In the settings section, look for "accessories" and then go to "DualSense wireless controller". Then select "custom profiles" to design one specifically for action games. As soon as you click here, a menu will open where you can make button assignments, adjust the joystick dead zone, and so on.

Adjust the sensitivity of the analog sticks

Analog sticks are essential for aiming. Adjusting their sensitivity from the in-game settings allows for more precise control.

  • Slightly reduce sensitivity for smoother, more precise movements, but without sacrificing speed when turning or reacting. You can adjust it just like the dead zone.

Modify the adaptive triggers

The DualSense features adaptive triggers that offer variable resistance depending on the game context. However, this resistance can be disadvantageous in situations that require quick reactions. It depends on the game, so adjusting it can be very useful.

  • Tip: Adjust the trigger strength or disable it from the console's settings menu if you prefer a faster, more consistent press.
  • How to adjust it: again in settings and "accessories", but this time in "controller (general)" you can find options to modify the intensity of the triggers.

Disable pointer acceleration

Some games incorporate acceleration when moving the joystick quickly. While this can be useful for casual players, disabling it is usually better for more accurate aiming. Many games include this option, so it is not a general controller setting, but rather a game-specific setting. You will have to check if it is included in the control settings of the game.

Use precision mode

In certain games, such as shooters, there is a "precision mode" that reduces sensitivity when aiming. Combine this with custom controller settings for optimal results.

Keep the Controller Clean and in Good Condition

Dust and dirt can affect the performance of joysticks and buttons.

  • Tip: Clean your controller regularly with a soft cloth and make sure the joysticks move freely.
