Emma Raducanu posted a photo from her hospital bed and shared a handwritten letter with her more than 2.5 million followers on Instagram.

The 20-year-old British tennis star, winner of the US Open in 2021, announced that she will miss Roland Garros and Wimbledon due to an operation on the wrists of both hands, and another intervention on her ankle.

"Hi, I can safely say that the last 10 months have been difficult because I dealt with a recurring bone injury in both hands," Raducanu wrote on Instagram alongside a photo after her surgery.

"I did my best to manage the pain and play through it for most of this year and the end of last year by drastically reducing practice load, missing weeks of training and shortening last season to try to heal it.

"Unfortunately, it's not enough. I'm going to have a minor procedure on both hands to resolve the problems.

"I am disappointed to share that I will be out for the next few months and, while I am at it, I will have another minor procedure on my ankle."

Emma Raducanu, currently ranked 102nd in the WTA rankings, has won just five matches this year.
