American tennis has a new generation, or, at least, they have a group of young players who are aspiring to break the trophy drought of the great sporting powerhouse that is the United States.

It has been 20 years since the Americans last saw one of their own win a Grand Slam title.

In 2003 it was Andy Roddick who finished the year at the top of the world ranking.

As of next week, five players from the United States will be among the top 25 in the rankings.

Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul, s Tiafoe, Ben Shelton and Sebastian Korda are all between 21 and 26 years old and that's why they make the United States dream of a promising future.

The son of the now retired Petr Korda has been the last to enter this list, after reaching the semifinals at the Shanghai Masters 1000, precisely beating his compatriot, Shelton, the youngest of all.

This edition of the US Open had three locals among the eight places in the quarterfinals, a milestone that had not happened since 2005.

There is still a lot of evidence that they are fulfilling their aspirations, but this was already the first symptom that the mechanism is starting to 'click'.

It's a mechanism that decades ago functioned perfectly with stars like Pete Sampras, John McEnroe, Jimmy Connors and Andre Agassi.

The only major lifted by Andy Roddick would signal the beginning of the great depression in which the United States would become accustomed to their sporting excellence vanishing into thin air.

The women's dynasty in the United States continues

The United States is also once again dreaming of a queen on the women's circuit.

Cori Gauff thrilled the North American country when she was crowned in New York at the age of 19 and she picks up the baton from Serena Williams, who leaves a very long shadow.

The pupil of Spanish coach Pere Riba s compatriots Jessica Pegula and Madison Keys and the WTA ranking has three American tennis players in the top 15.
