- UFC. Conor McGregor cleared of sexual assault charges: Insufficient evidence, prosecutors say
Fighter Conor McGregor underwent drug testing for the first time in two years. The fighter returned to the USADA testing pool, and at the end of his first test, he gave the agents a couple of liquor bottles.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the Irish fighter indicated, "I was tested two separate times yesterday and within an hour of each other. Blood and urine. 3 samples of each were requested and given in both instances."
However, the UFC star also claimed that the agents "boarded my yacht. I welcomed them. I gave them a can of my Forged Irish Stout and a Proper Whiskey. Life is good."
As part of his return to the octagon after two years of injury, McGregor's comment has accumulated 11,200 likes and 329 comments and has been reposted 411 times.
McGregor's return
The two-time UFC world champion will return to action in 2024 in a fight against Michael Chandler. The Irishman has not fought since July 2021, when he suffered a broken leg in his fight against Dustin Poirier.
United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) rules state that a fighter must be in their testing pool for at least six months and give two negative results before a fight.
However, the UFC and McGregor are trying to by the rule so that the fight can take place in 2023. The matter has caused an exchange of statements between the UFC and USADA, with mutual accusations regarding compliance with the rules.
The controversy around McGregor
Amid the controversy, the UFC announced that it would not renew the contract with the USADA testing program and that from now on, Drug-Free Sport International will be in charge of collecting the tests.
The UFC assured that this is because the USADA system is obsolete and has not fulfilled its promises of technological renewal. On its part, the anti-doping agency considered that they are seeking an exception to the rule so that McGregor can fight this year.
