For the first time, two fighters born in Africa will face off for a UFC championship

UFC 305 Du Plessis vs Adesanya Purse: How much money will the winner take home tonight?

After two previous attempts, Dricus du Plessis and Israel Adesanya will finally meet this Saturday, August 17, in the main event of UFC 305, fighting for the middleweight championship at RAC Arena in Perth, Australia.

The bout was initially scheduled for UFC 293 in September 2023 but was canceled due to a foot injury sustained by Du Plessis.

They later agreed to fight in April of this year at UFC 300, but once again, the South African postponed the duel, citing injuries in both legs, which he claimed had lingered since his fight against Sean Strickland.

The third time's the charm, and with less than a week until the event, it seems they will finally face off in a five-round bout where Du Plessis will defend his title against the former champion, 'The Last Stylebender' Adesanya.

This will be the first time that two fighters born in Africa compete for a UFC championship. South African Dricus du Plessis (21-2-0) will look to extend his nine-fight winning streak with his first title defense at UFC 305.

However, it won't be easy against New Zealand's Nigerian-born Israel Adesanya (24-3-0), who was the middleweight champion after taking the belt from Robert Whittaker at UFC 243 in 2019 and successfully defending it five times.

How Much Money Will Du Plessis and Adesanya Earn?

The official earnings for UFC 305 have not yet been disclosed, but an estimate can be made based on their previous payouts.

It is estimated that Dricus du Plessis earned around $1 million in his fight against Sean Strickland this past January, which at the time was the highest purse of his career, and as the current champion, he should sur that amount.

On the other hand, Adesanya has had higher purses thanks to his record as a two-time UFC champion.

For example, in his fight against Alex Pereira in April 2023, he earned a total of $2,807,000, while his estimated earnings in September of the same year, in the bout where he lost the title to Strickland, were $3,540,000.
