Submitted by Ignacio 'La Jaula' Bahamondes (17-5) in the first round of his fight at UFC 313, Jalin Turner (14-9) surprised everyone by announcing his immediate retirement. The American, who was ranked in the lightweight division and is only 29 years old (he turns 30 in May), has decided to end his career
"I was already considering the idea of retiring after UFC 300. I took some time off, you know, kept training, just trying to get my mind right, just focus on my mental health. It's hard, man, fighting is hard. I've been doing it for 12 years, and you have to be fully committed or not. And even being there now, I wasn't as fully committed as I thought I would be. The decision to stay or not was honestly based on this fight for me. I felt like I would get the go-ahead, get the win," he told 'Sportsnet' after stepping out of the UFC cage

The defeat was Turner's fourth in his last five fights... going from 6-2 to 7-6 in the company. Turner, visibly emotional in front of the microphones of the press present in Las Vegas, wanted to explain the reason for his retirement.
"I've been thinking about this for the last 11 months, whether I'm going to keep fighting or not. I didn't know how much longer I wanted to keep doing this. My kids are growing up. I don't want to keep taking damage. Training camps are hard. Life has really taken its toll on me over the last 11 months, so I just need to get away for a little bit, maybe forever."

Minutes later, Bahamondes left a curious image. The Chilean fighter, who had submitted the 'Tarantula', told the press that he had just learned of Turner's decision... and publicly asked him not to retire, inviting him to train with him and even to stay at his house during the time they shared camp.
