- Boxing. Sean O'Malley warns Ryan Garcia after failed drug tests: That would s**k for that idiot
Former UFC star Chael Sonnen has weighed in on the controversy surrounding Ryan Garcia following last month's fight with Devin Haney.
Garcia weighed in overweight for the fight, and he later returned a positive drug test, something he immediately disputed. Meanwhile, KingRy has since featured on social media videos, denying the allegations, also posting a number of comedic social media posts.
Since then, further testing has found that Garcia was clean of Norandrosterone metabolite, which is derived from the well-known banned substance Nandrolone. Though, KingRy is awaiting further results due to the ongoing presence of Ostarine in his samples.
In the meantime, former UFC star Sonnen has reiterated his defense of Garcia. He said on his YouTube channel: "There's nobody out there that told you Ryan Garcia was clean, except me. My gripe is why did he subject himself to this scrutiny willingly?...If there isn't a punishment, it's not a rule. I don't care what the sign says. If there's not a punishment, it's not actually a rule."
It's worth noting that Sonnen has had his own issues with failed drug tests in the past, and so he has been through this kind of situation.
Hearn's mission
Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn is pushing for the Garcia win over Haney to be void given the questions surrounding the bout.
"It just can't be an inside job because that's the most ridiculous thing in the world," Hearn said recently.
"Devin wants him disqualified from the fight. I'll be honest I don't see how you can be given a win when you didn't win. Even if it's found that there was contamination in his body or he still entered the ring with it in his system so I think the no contesting is an absolute given."
