- F1. Checo Perez faces losing points due to FIA ruling
- F1. Red Bull doesn't see Verstappen racing in F1 until he is 41 or 42 years old
Aston Martin has taken a giant leap forward this year. In three races, they have managed to score podium finishes that no one could have predicted before the start of the season. Compared to what they did in the two previous years, the difference is simply enormous. In 49 races, they only managed one podium finish. It was Sebastian Vettel. The four-time champion finished 2nd in a crazy race in Baku in 2021.
Everything has changed. They have gone from seventh in the Constructors' standings (that's how they finished in 2022) to second. The green cars are only being beaten by the unbeatable RB19s of Max Verstappen and Checo Perez. They are beating Mercedes and Ferrari, something unthinkable considering the might of both teams.
A great motivator
Be that as it may, Alonso's arrival has been essential to this spectacular turnaround in the status quo of the F1 World Championship. So, it is not surprising that he has been showered with compliments. Mike Krack has been particularly vocal in his praise for the two-time champion.
"Fernando infects everyone in the team with his enthusiasm and seemingly endless energy. It's really fascinating to work with him, he pulls us all along like a powerful wave," Krack told Speedweek.
"Just listen to his comments on the radio. They are good proof of his enthusiasm. Fernando is a wonderful motivator and inspires the team to do everything for him and with him."
Every detail counts
"If we want to keep climbing the podium, we can't afford to slip up in the slightest," he continued.
"We have achieved a lot in a short time. But now we have to keep our foot on the accelerator."
On the other hand, Krack is looking at the Red Bulls for competition, although he assumes that the energy drinks team is, right now, in a different league.
"There is a difference between confidence and arrogance. We are substantially behind Red Bull. Even if they stand still, the gap would be big to catch them in a season," he itted in an interview with Auto Motor Und Sport.
"Also, they have a different infrastructure, a different firepower than us. Of course, we take the faster car as a reference. We just don't go crazy and constantly look at the distances to Ferrari, Mercedes and Alpine".
"We have to be realistic. We have to look up, but we also have to look at third and fourth place. Things can change very quickly in the championship. We are not far ahead of Mercedes. As a team, you can drop down the standings very quickly."
