Miguel Torres has stated that opposition fans used to insult him during his playing stints with Getafe and Malaga by calling him pro-Real Madrid.
The now retired defender ed Los Blancos at just 12 years old and went on to play 52 games for the first team between 2006 and 2009.
And he believes that heritage followed him wherever he went.
"I got called 'pro-Madrid' so many times," Torres told El Chiringuito de Jugones.
"They used it as an insult.
"But that's what you have to expect when you've been at a club so long.
"People identify you with that and nothing else.
"But it's true, I always felt so at home among the Madrid fans."
Torres also gave his thoughts on long-serving Los Blancos captain Sergio Ramos.
"He was a leader from the moment he arrived at the club," he noted.
"He's from the same school as Raul [Gonzalez], in of being one of the best leaders the team has ever had.
"He always wants to play for Spain, too.
"He's one of the few players that can play at such a demanding club like he does.
"He's very demanding, but I always had a good relationship with him.
"He's irreplaceable and I hope to see him retire at the club."
Torres didn't have such warm words for the departing Gareth Bale.
"He had the chance to replace Cristiano Ronaldo and carry the team on his back, but he didn't," Torres declared.
Lionel Messi was also the subject of Torres' appearance on the show.
"He's a special player and you have to treat him that way," he explained.
"[Ronald] Koeman has to develop a mutual understanding with him, being the captain.
"That relationship is so important to any team."
Torres ended by discussing Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas.
"Iker and Real Madrid should always be together," he stated.
