Ben Affleck recently opened up about his experience with fame and media pressure during an interview on the podcast 'This Past Weekend With Theo Von', revealing that he feels a deep empathy for Britney Spears. The 52-year-old actor, who is currently going through a new chapter following his divorce from Jennifer Lopez, shared how he watched with dismay the media harassment that Spears experienced years ago

"I felt great empathy for Britney Spears. I didn't know her personally or spend time with her, but like everyone else, you saw all that trash going around," commented the actor in 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice'. Although he did not want to speculate on the singer's emotional state at the time, he acknowledged the negative impact of the constant harassment by the paparazzi: "I knew there were people following her at times when she might have been having difficulties. That persecution alone seemed to fuel all the chaos."

The actor reflected on how the collective sensationalism turns celebrities into targets, comparing the situation to "people waving a stick in front of a tiger to make it roar". For him, what is seen in the photos or headlines is not the complete reality: "What is missing in those images are the people who are provoking that reaction. Only the 'angry animal' is shown, but not those who incite it".

Her words came a year after Britney Spears revealed on Instagram, in a now-deleted post, that years ago she kissed him. "It's a great picture of Ben Affleck, Diane Warren and me! Did I tell you I kissed Ben that night? Honestly, I forgot... that's crazy!" Spears wrote in February 2024, adding a touch of humor to the recollection.

Beyond the issue with Spears, the "Gone Girl" and "Argo" star also took the opportunity to talk about his fame and how he has dealt with public attention. He recalled, for example, how a photo of him in 2016 went viral with a melancholy expression during a smoking break in London. "If you take a picture every time someone is irritated, it's going to look like they always are," he explained. He also talked about his discomfort with constant exposure: "I don't like being seen. It's not helpful to me as an actor."

"Fame affects the work of actors"

The star of the The ant franchise acknowledged that fame can affect his work: "If people see me all the time, I can no longer build the illusion in a movie. They find it hard to suspend disbelief." He also itted that sometimes his face just seems annoying, even when it's not. "I'm listening to something or concentrating, and they ask me if everything is okay," he joked.

In the midst of his post-divorce stage with Jennifer Lopez, sources close to him indicate that Affleck is ready to meet someone new, although he wants to avoid another high-profile relationship. In turn, he is looking to sell the $68 million mansion he shared with Lopez, although they both have different views on the price.
