On Monday, February 10, 2025, a tragic accident at Scottsdale Airport in Arizona resulted in the death of one individual and injuries to several others. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. MST when a Learjet 35A veered off the runway after landing and collided with a parked Gulfstream 200 business jet.

According to Scottsdale Fire Department Captain Dave Folio, five people were involved in the collision. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, two were transported to local trauma centers, one was hospitalized in stable condition, and one individual remained trapped in the wreckage during the initial response.

Kelli Kuester, the Scottsdale Airport's aviation planning and outreach coordinator, reported that the Learjet appeared to experience a left main gear failure upon landing, leading to the collision. The arriving jet had four people on board and was arriving from Austin, Texas, while the parked Gulfstream had one person inside.

In response to the accident, the airport's runway has been closed indefinitely as authorities conduct a thorough investigation. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has taken over the investigation to determine the cause of the collision.

Aviation safety under scrutiny after series of deadly crashes

This incident adds to a series of recent aviation accidents in the United States, raising concerns about flight safety. In late January, a commercial plane collided with a military helicopter during its descent into Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, resulting in the deaths of 67 people. The collision is still under investigation as black boxes from both aircraft were successfully recovered early this month.

Just two days after the collision at Reagan airport, seven people were killed in a Philadelphia plane crash that injured more than a dozen people on the ground. A cause for the crash has not yet been named by officials.

The recent spate of aviation incidents has heightened public concern regarding air travel safety. While flying remains statistically safer than other forms of transportation, these events underscore the importance of rigorous safety protocols and continuous monitoring within the aviation industry.

As the investigation into the Scottsdale Airport collision continues, authorities will be examining all aspects of the incident to prevent future occurrences and ensure the safety of air travel.
