The community of scientific experts and historians works tirelessly to find answers to all those questions and doubts that surround human beings. Some of them are directed at civilizations as ancient as they are well-known and which played an essential role in the development of certain countries. The Vikings, for example, were one of those societies with a fascinating impact.
Until recently, several scholars and experts in the field had taken it for granted that a series of ships found belonged to the Viking community. This was an appreciation made more than 200 years ago. Now, this has been blown out of the water, as it has been discovered that this would not be the case, at least according to a resolution.
The characteristic of Viking ships compared to others
This twist corresponds to the group led by the Stockholm Shipwreck Museum, which points out that a ship, 20 kilometers off the coast, is not actually Viking, as scientists have claimed for two centuries.
One of the reasons this has changed is the detailed analysis of the materials and the type of distribution of certain aspects of the ship. For example, at the time of the Vikings, they used clinker, overlapping hull planks. However, in the one found they were handmade, which was developed in the Mediterranean area.
Experts, thanks to 3D analysis techniques, have determined that this ship is not only more recent than initially thought, but was probably originated in the Nordic area. Some remains are believed to date from between the 17th and 18th centuries, although one of them could belong to the 15th century, according to archaeologists from the Vrak Museum of Wrecks in Stockholm.
