Jasson Dominguez did it again. The young Dominican, known as "The Martian," ignited Yankee Stadium with a colossal ninth-inning blast that left the Texas Rangers on the field and ended an almost three-year wait for a gold home run for the New Yorkers.
His 398-foot blast not only sealed the 4-3 victory, but also marked the Yankees' emotional return to a classic winning style: with drama, comeback and hero included.
The last time the "Bronx Bombers" experienced such a moment was in September 2022, when Giancarlo Stanton hit a grand slam to leave the Pirates on the field. Since then, the magic of the walk-off had disappeared... until Dominguez appeared. At just 22 years old, he is already part of a select list as the fourth youngest player to hit a gold HR in franchise history.
From promise to reality
Dominguez made his Major League debut with an impact and has since continued to confirm why he is one of the most promising prospects in baseball. In this 2025 season, he has had brilliant moments, including a three-home run game against Oakland. But it was this home run that elevated his status: "My first walk-off. It was incredible. As soon as I hit it, I knew it was special," he confessed after the game.
He came up with one out in the ninth, just after Aaron Judge tied the score with a single. Dominguez took advantage of a slider from reliever Luke Jackson and sent the crowd into a frenzy. His teammates were waiting for him at the plate for a celebration that included an ice-cold water bath, shouts and smiles. "He's becoming a solid player for us," Judge said. "If we're going to go far, he's going to be key."
A comeback for the ages
Before the final outburst, the Yankees were held in check by a dominant performance from Jacob deGrom, who retired 15 consecutive batters until Cody Bellinger broke the ice with a solo home run in the seventh inning. In the eighth, Judge appeared again with a productive hit to tie the game, setting the stage for Dominguez.
On the mound, Ryan Yarbrough had a solid performance of five innings, three hits and eight strikeouts. "We knew something big had happened when we heard the roar of the stadium," said the left-hander, who saw the hit from the clubhouse. It was the Yankees' 10th win in 14 games as they remain atop the American League East.
