- NCAA. Caitlin Clark facing scrutiny ahead of setting new NCAA scoring record
Catlin Clark is closing in on the NCAA Division I women's all-time points record with only five games left in the regular season and fans will be clamoring to the see her hit her milestone.
The Iowa Hawkeyes point guard is just eight points away from setting a new record as she closes in on Kelsey Plum's long-standing total.
In 2017, Washington point guard and current Las Vegas Aces star Plum set the all-time scoring record with 3,527 points - suring previous record holder Jackie Stiles. At the time of writing, Clark is in a fine position to leapfrog Plum on 3,520 points.
In her last contest, Iowa's No. 2 ranked squad were beaten by the Nebraska Cornhuskers 82-79, despite Clark clocking 31 points to put her in line with her season average of 32.1 points a game.
Only a cruel twist of fate could prevent her from smashing the record set by Plum and posting a new benchmark. Given her average return, it would be realistic to expect Clark to score at least 100 points before the end of the season, so eight should be an easy target for the 22-year-old.
It is likely that she will set the record at her home, the Carver Hawkeye Arena, against the Michigan Wolverines on Thursday, February 15. Tickets are still available for the game, but they are selling fast as fans bid to get their chance to witness history in the making.
How to buy tickets to see Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes
The only sticking point for keen fans is that the tickets will cost more than an average college basketball game, with the lowest-priced tickets as high as $246 on some websites such as Vivid Seats, which is a secondary ticket platform that offers a safe transaction process and 100 per cent buyer guarantee.
Compare that to tickets for the Big Ten - Women's Basketball tournament in March, where ission starts from $75. However, the Hawkeyes' next game against Indiana in Bloomington still has tickets available for $65, meaning if Clark were to miss the Michigan game, she could have a chance to post the record there.
But if Clark breaks the record, it may well be worth the expense to witness a moment of history in women's basketball.
