Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders is ready to show the world that his Colorado Buffaloes can compete with any college football program, even if they are no longer without superstar quarterback Shedeur Sanders and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter.

This season, the Buffs spring roster will feature most of the 30 newcomers signed by Colorado in the early singing period both out of high school (13) and via the transfer portal (17) as most of those players are enrolled at the University of Colorado for the spring semester.

Among the standouts are five-star quarterback Julian Lewis - one of the best young football players in the nation -, veteran quarterback Kaidon Salter - who wants to have his best year in college before declaring for the 2026 NFL Draft -, as well as true freshman offensive tackle Jodan Seaton.

The Colorado Buffaloes had their first scrimmage ahead of their 2025 Spring Football Game as part of Black & Gold Day, set for April 19 at Folsom Field. It was an opportunity for the newcomers and the veterans to display their best plays and skills in front of "Coach Prime," with the hope of earning a starting spot for the start of the season.

During a part of the scrimmage, Sanders talked to his offensive line players and warned them that they are going to be in big trouble if they allow the defensive players to get away with hits. "If I ever see a linebacker hit one of y'all and punch one of y'all and y'all don't kill this dude, we are going to have a problem." Sanders said.

"First of all, y'all the strongest kids out here, I want you to get your get back and I'm not going to stop it. Y'all ain't taking no whopping, no way, not one of y'all are taking no whopping, do y'all understand that? We give whoopings, we ain't taking no whooping, y'all got that?" Deion added.

The offensive line has been an issue for Colorado

Colorado's offensive line has been an issue for years now, with protections being a constant problem, something that superstar quarterback Shedeur Sanders knows too well. During Deion Sanders' first season with the Buffs, the team allowed 56 sacks in 12 games, the second most in the Football Bowl Subdivision behind Old Dominion.

At the time, "Coach Prime" talked about the fact that his offensive line needed to be able to handle the pressure. "I'm not saying the pressure of rushing the er. The pressure of the game, the pressure of the moment, the pressure of the time. Everybody wants to be 'him' until it's time to be 'him'," Sanders added.

The new offensive line for the Buffaloes is going to have a first chance to show what they are made of at the 2025 Spring Football Game. The last two spring games have been the two highest attended in the University of Colorado's history with "Coach Prime's" first spring game in 2023 being the only game aired on ESPN and brining 47,277 CU faithful through a snow storm to see the Buffs in action for the first time.

The past two seasons have seen a record season ticket renewal rate of over 97 percent. This year's renewal period closed on February 7 with seat selection happening in early April and single game tickets expected to be on sale in May.
