Jim Kelly is ed for being one of the best quarterbacks of the Buffalo Bills and the NFL. However, good fortune does not seem to be on his side and he has gone through some difficult times on a personal level.
His health was one of them. The legend fought four battles against cancer and fortunately is free him since 2019. However, another of the hardest blows he experienced was the loss of his son, Hunter, at the age of 8 in 2005.
While his son was sick with a fatal globoid-cell leukodystrophy, Kelly was working as a football analyst and "away from home a lot." This situation was not easy for the former athlete, but neither was it easy for his wife.
Speaking on his 'Grit and Grace' podcast, he itted that during that time, he was unfaithful to his wife:
It was a struggle. We weren't getting along... Me and my wife lost interest in each other.
He also itted that he was angry with God and thought that if being a Christian was being like his wife, he didn't want to be one: "I thought, 'Man, you put me through all this? I can't handle this."
However, at that time he also had a talk with his mother-in-law, who brought him to his senses and changed his mind. Today he is a faithful and devout believer.
His time with the Buffalo Bills
The 65-year-old legend led the team to four consecutive Super Bowl appearances in 1990, 1991, 1992 and 1993, although they were defeated on all four occasions.
After an eleven-year career as quarterback of the Buffalo Bills he racked up 35,467 yards, 237 touchdowns and 175 interceptions.
