Saquon Barkley had a career-defining performance on Sunday night, helping the Philadelphia Eagles crush the Los Angeles Rams 37-20. But what greeted him after the game wasn't just praise, it was a hilarious prank from his teammates.
Following his jaw-dropping 255 rushing yards, which marked a personal best and ranked among the top ten rushing games in NFL history, Barkley found a note in his locker claiming he'd been selected for a random drug test.
"That's not me," Barkley laughed. "I've been drug tested enough."
While it's common for the NFL to test players after extraordinary performances, this time, it was a gag orchestrated by his fellow Eagles to celebrate the night in their own way.
Barkley, who ed the Eagles this season after spending six years with the New York Giants, is no stranger to attention-grabbing moments on the field.
Earlier in the season, he actually was drug-tested after executing an unforgettable backward hurdle over a Jaguars defender.
Shining this season
Sunday's performance pushed Barkley to the top of the NFL rushing leaderboard with 1,392 yards, suring Derrick Henry.
His incredible contributions have been a driving force behind the Eagles' current seven-game winning streak, which has propelled the team to a 9-2 record and the top of the NFC East standings.
"I'm probably going to get a lot of credit, and everyone's going to say this and say that, but in reality, the beauty of this game is it's a team game," Barkley said after the game against the Rams.
"My favorite quote that Nick says is, 'It's hard to be great without the greatness of others.' And those guys [on the OL], and the tight ends, and the wide receivers blocking down the field are super amazing."
