Tie games in football are rare, but they happen often enough in the NFL. A tied game occurs when a regular season game ends with both teams having an equal score after one ten minute overtime period. Ties have counted as a half-win and half-loss in league standings since 1972; before that, ties were not counted in the standings at all.
NFL teams rarely play for ties. In general, tied games in the NFL are frowned upon by both teams and fans. Because tied games are rare, some players have not known they were allowed.

But, which team has the most ties? And what is the record for ties in a single season? Let's take a look.
What is the record for most ties by the same team in one NFL season?
This record was set all the way back in 1932, when football was played very differently. The Chicago Bears tied six of their 1143 games that year, for a 7-1-6 record.
Amazingly, the first three games were all ties and they were all 0-0 ties. Yes, 0-0. That was against the Green Bay Packers, the Staten Island Stapletons and the Chicago Cardinals.
They later tied, with some points scored, against the Boston Braves and twice against the Portsmouth Spartans.
After 1974, when overtime was introduced, tie games became less common. Since then, the number of ties has fallen drastically and no team has had multiple tie games in a single season.
Which team holds the all-time record for tie games in the NFL?
In of the all-time record, it's also the Chicago Bears. This makes sense given their long history and given how many they had in 1932. They have 42 in total since ing the league in 1920.
However, the Chicago Bears' last tied game was before the overtime rule change, coming all the way back on September 24, 1972.
