Something completely unexpected happen at the US Open as favorite Novak Djokovic suffered a major upset during a game against Alexei Popyrin, who was able to hold his own against one of the all-time greats and getting the break in the fourth set. The Australian 25-year-old also made history by making it the first time since the 2004 Rolland Garros that we have a major tournament without either Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer. This means that we are in front of a new era that is about to start, regardless of how much longer all of these three legends have left. Only Federer remains retired while the other two are in the twilight of their careers. Popyrin is currently the No. 2 Australian singles tennis player and he is currently No. 28 in the world.

Nadal v Djokovic for the last time ever? Tennis giants set for Olympics clashLAPRESSE

Novak Djokovic's impressive record

For Novak Djokovic, the most recent victory he had was in the Olympic Games celebrated in Paris after winning the singles Gold Medal by defeating Carlos Alcaraz. Djokovic had never won the Men's Tennis Singles Olympic Gold Medal before, he won the bronze medal back in Beijing 2008 but that's it. Howeevr, he does hold the record of most Grand Slam titles in his career with an impressive 24 wins. Djokovic has won three French Open victories, four US Open championships, 7 Wimbledon trophies, and 10 Australian Open trophies. Also, Nole won the Davis Cup back in 2010.

Alexei Popyrin will have to this day as the greatest victory of his professional career, unless he gets to have a career very similar to what the three giants mentioned here had. Nadal and Federer had to crawl so Novak Djokovic could walk. The question now is, which of these young players wil be the one who flies and sures three giants of the sport? Currently, it seems like Carlos Alcaraz could be that player but he is still too young to know if he has what it takes. Alexei Popyrin can stil win some tournaments but he is already 25 years old.
