Sean Strickland made the news twice for two different reasons on June 1 by claiming his latest UFC win against Paulo Costa, before turning his victory into a staunch defense of Donald Trump, after the Republican was found guilty of 34 different felony offenses in New York City.

The former president of the United States was accused, and convicted, of falsifying business records by using hush money to pay Stormy Daniels to remain silent about their affair in the run up to the 2016 election, something that could have also been seen as electoral fraud.

But his followers have rejected the conviction, citing it is a political witch-hunt like Trump did, to decry the validity of the prosecution, judge, jury and just about anyone else involved in the legal process, with Strickland ing that party now too.

"President Trump, you're the man, bro," Strickland said after being given the win. "It's a damn travesty what they're doing to you. I'll be donating [to] you, my man. Let's get it done."

It remains to be seen how the felony conviction will impact his ability, or even his rights, to run as the Republican nominee for office as he bids to beat Joe Biden in the first rematch between two candidates in over 60 years.

Strickland guns for the title

After his points victory of Costa, Strickland is not waiting around to call out his next opponent and has quickly shifted his attention back to the belts, which he harbors dreams of taking back from the South African, Dricus du Plessis.

Now as the ranked number one contender again, Strickland believes it's his right to a second shot at the middleweight title within a year and that's what he's looking for as he indirectly appealed to UFC CEO, Dana White, for that shot.

"I want to fight for the belt," Strickland added. "Hey, I was a company man, I fought a rank seven guy.

"Give me it now. I did it for you guys. Give me that title shot."
