Quarterback Arch Manning has already chosen his immediate future. Despite strong competition for the starting job, the heir to the Manning dynasty chose to stay at the University of Texas, awaiting his opportunity to be a starter.

"It's tough because you want to be out there playing with your boys," Manning shared during media availability at this year's Manning ing Academy, as reported by The Athletic. However, instead of seeking a new school for more playing time, Manning has decided to stay in Austin.

"But it came down to just realizing there's nowhere else I want to be, and it was my dream to play at Texas. I'm going to stick it out and play there eventually," the young signal-caller shared.

This decision means Manning won't be coined QB1 until at least the 2025 campaign, barring an injury to starter Quinn Ewers. Manning's loyalty to Texas contrasts sharply with the current trend among college quarterbacks, who frequently switch schools in search of better opportunities.

The new nomadic quarterbacks

In December 2023, nearly two-thirds of the top 20 quarterbacks from each of the 2019-22 recruiting cycles were either in the transfer portal or had already switched schools, according to The Associated Press.

Manning's unexpected decision has sparked surprise and confusion, leading many to seek Ewers' perspective. "I think he understands that what he's got here is he's gonna be the most ready whenever he goes to the NFL,"Ewers said, according to The Athletic.

"I think coach (Steve Sarkisian) does the best job getting quarterbacks ready for the NFL and developing guys. (Manning will) be playing in his third year. He'll be more than comfortable in operating the offense, and it's just a really good fit for him."

Ewers can personally relate to Manning's situation, having transferred from Ohio State in 2021. "I think his actions definitely go to show that the kid's got some patience, for sure. I know it's tough because when I went to Ohio State, obviously it's tough sitting behind somebody," Ewers shared with the outlet.

Manning will stick with the Longhorns

The reality is that finding time on the field as a quarterback is challenging, leading many players to spread their collegiate careers across multiple teams. But Manning is defying this norm due to his lifelong dream to play at Texas.

After playing in the 2023 spring game for Team Orange, Manning did not secure the starting job. Quinn Ewers was named the starting quarterback, and Maalik Murphy was named the backup. Manning made his collegiate debut on November 24, 2023, during the third quarter of a blowout win against Texas Tech, completing 2-of-5 ing attempts for 30 yards.

As a member of the illustrious Manning family, Arch is the oldest son of Cooper, a grandson of Archie, and a nephew of Peyton and Eli. His younger brother, Heid, is currently the center for Isidore Newman.
