Super Bowl LIX exposed a couple of flaws for the Kansas City Chiefs that has many wondering if they can get back to their very best in 2025 and beyond. The biggest weakness that became clear was the offensive line. Patrick Mahomes was under constant duress despite the Philadelphia Eagles only rushing with four players most of the time.
But what concerned fans possibly even more was the lack of separation and dynamism from the wide receiver corps. With Travis Kelce slowing down a bit from his elite days, Mahomes needed his wideouts to win their matchups in the Super Bowl. Instead, the offensive line gave him no time and his wide receivers didn't get open in time. In reality, it wasn't that much of a surprise given the injuries the team sustained at that position, but it has led to wide receiver being a top need this offseason.
What does DeAndre Hopkins g with Ravens mean for Chiefs?
Despite the team needing talent and depth at the position, they decided to let DeAndre Hopkins walk in free agency. And he went to one of the Chiefs' biggest AFC rivals no less, the Baltimore Ravens.
Hopkins was serviceable for the Chiefs once acquired midseason in 2024, but he was almost non-existent in the playoffs, which is when the team needed a go-to target for Mahomes the most. He only caught three es for 29 yards in three postseason games.
Kansas City clearly felt Hopkins didn't have much left in the tank, as they let him go to the Ravens for only $5 million. The team has re-signed Marquise Brown and Xavier Worthy will be more experienced in his second season, but the team still needs to add more talent and depth at the position; especially since Rashee Rice's status is still up in the air at the moment.
