Tom Brady knows what it's like to win and lose. In his extensive career, just as he has won seven Super Bowl rings, he has also known the taste of defeat. However, none hurt as much as having to say goodbye to his little dog "Lua".
Known for his many facets, Brady has been investing in a company that could bring his pet back to life. Or at least clone her. Genetic engineering firm "Colossal Biosciences" stole all the spotlight days ago by announcing that they would have "de-extinct" the direwolf using a tooth and an ear bone from the 13,000 and 72,000-year-old animal respectively.
"The Colossal science team succeeded in mapping the direwolf genome" Brady wrote with iration in his personal blog. And although this news has generated debates of all kinds, the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers showed his tender side with his stance on the matter.
In his post, Tom recounted his first conversation with Colossal co-founder and CEO Ben Lamm. In his writing, he recounts that he met him through a friend who had heard him talk "about cloning, gene editing and the possibility of de-extinction of animals".
Brady's interest turned in another direction, however: "Ironically, my first question to Ben had nothing to do with prolonging or expanding human life. I asked him, half jokingly, if they could clone my beloved little dog Lua," he itted.
To his surprise, Lamm confirmed that technically it could be done, but that is not what the company intends to do. While the minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders did not go into detail about whether he has attempted to clone Lua, he makes it clear that the pain of his loss still lingers.
Lua and Tom
Lua came into the life of the former New England Patriots and his ex-partner Gisele Bündchen in 2014. The two adopted her from a local shelter and she became a member of the family. In December 2023, just two days before Christmas, the couple announced Lua's sad ing via Instagram stories.
Of course, her departure affected Tom a lot, since she had accompanied every step of the star: from his years with the Patriots, his move to the Buccaneers, his victories, his Super Bowls and even his divorce with Gisele.
Undoubtedly, one of the most important and difficult losses of his life.
Tom Brady and his love for dogs
When Tom announced his retirement, several messages flooded the networks, in the one from Logan Ryan's wife he let another of his ions show: taking care of animals.
"He volunteered at the animal shelter with his kids for an entire soccer season. He named the puppies and helped bottle-feed the kittens.... He quietly showed up every other week to help the family and his community. While his children would say, 'please can we stay a little longer!' That's Tom Brady, the one where two girls forged a friendship around their love for kittens and did their part to make the world a better place for animals" wrote Ashley Bragg.
