Tom Brady's coaching staff is trying to change Ashton Jeanty and it could lead to organizational dysfunction

The Boise State running back has kept things professional so far, but will he speak up?

When the Las Vegas Raiders decided to draft a running back sixth overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, it was because they thought Ashton Jeanty was a complete and polished prospect. Running backs simply don't go that high anymore in the modern NFL, so Tom Brady, Pete Carroll and the Raiders front office clearly thought very highly of the Boise State product.

Jeanty had a legendary college career, putting together one of the best seasons by a running back in NFL history in his final season with the Broncos. He finished as the runner-up to Travis Hunter for the Heisman Trophy. His elite traits and jaw-dropping physique made him arguably the most NFL-ready player in the draft. Despite that, the Raiders' coaching staff is already tinkering with what made him great in college.

Chip Kelly forces Ashton Jeanty to change his iconic running back stance

Many have noticed in video clips of Raiders practices that Jeanty has changed up his pre-snap stance. The iconic stance he used in college, in which he stood straight up in a menacing way, is no longer a thing early in his NFL career. Jeanty himself has come out to explain why he's not doing it anymore: it's thanks to Raiders offensive coordinator Chip Kelly.

NFL Draft 2025: Who drafted best in the AFC?

You know, sometimes you have to, you know, go with the flow... He won for now. I'm gonna try to persuade him one day. I gotta earn my stripes and make some plays first, but I don't think it's going to be the end [of the stance].

Kelly first asked Jeanty if he ever played basketball, then proceeded to demonstrate why getting down and having a low center of gravity in his stance is so important. Jeanty has been professional in how he's accepted the teaching from Kelly and not made a big deal about giving up something that made him great. But it sounds like he's not giving up on it just yet.
