"That's freaking Harry," Heyward said after receiving his award. "Man, I'm in shock. That's Prince Harry."
Harry commended Heyward's commitment to helping others, jokingly claiming that the United States stole rugby from the UK.
"Instead of ing it backward. Just it forward. Why not wear pads and a helmet? And why not take a breather every 15 seconds?" Harry noted.
"And you know what, instead of a 10-month season, let's just make it 18 weeks. Genius!"
Quick visit to see his father
His brief visit to the UK to see his cancer-stricken father, King Charles, raised eyebrows as he spent only a short time with him before returning to California to be with Meghan Markle and their children.
"During The King's recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted," the palace said in a statement. "Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.
"His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.
"Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual."
Choosing to stay at a hotel rather than with family, Harry reportedly aimed to assert his financial independence.
His visit did not include seeing Prince William or Kate Middleton, who was recovering from surgery. Whether Harry and Meghan will attend the Super Bowl remains uncertain.
