In the Pittsburgh Steelers locker room, there's excitement about the possibility of Aaron Rodgers becoming their quarterback, but they've set a limit

One of the biggest storylines of the offseason is the case of "Aaron Rodgers," who has an offer to play for the Pittsburgh Steelers and immediately become the starter for a team expected to compete in the tough AFC North. However, the quarterback has yet to make a decision.

The Pittsburgh Steelers currently have three quarterbacks on their roster: Mason Rudolph, the most experienced; Will Howard, a rookie selected in the sixth round of the recent Draft; and Skylar Thompson, who was signed in free agency.

It was leaked a few weeks ago that Rodgers' top desire was to sign with the Minnesota Vikings, but that door now seems completely closed. His options appear to be either playing with the Steelers or not playing at all next season-making retirement a real possibility for the future Hall of Famer.

Time keeps moving forward, but even so, Pittsburgh Steelers owner Art Rooney II has said they're willing to wait a bit longer in hopes of having Aaron Rodgers lead the offense next season.

Meanwhile, inside the Steelers locker room, there is a genuine desire to have Rodgers, as defensive player Alex Highsmith confirmed.

"My teammates ask me a lot, and some friends who are fans and things like that," said Highsmith. "I feel like we're working hard in the locker room, and I think that's the most important thing right now. I know that if he signs, we'll definitely be very excited to have him. We know who he is. He's a Hall of Fame quarterback. He's one of the best to ever play this game."

However, in case Rodgers doesn't arrive, they believe Mason Rudolph is doing a good job. Rudolph already has significant experience with the Steelers, even though he played for the Titans last season.

"I think we're just trying to give our best every day," Highsmith told NFL Media. "With the guys who are in the building right now. I know Mason [Rudolph] has done a great job. The guys are ing him, and like I said, he's been with us before and the players know him; Pittsburgh fans know him. The way he helped us close out 2023 was incredible."

For now, they continue to wait for Aaron Rodgers' response. But the NFL has already done its part, scheduling the Steelers vs. Jets matchup for Week 1. It's worth noting that Rodgers had a rough departure from the Jets, so that game would carry a special twist to kick off the season.
