Updated

The stage is set for Super Bowl LIX, with the reigning champion Kansas City Chiefs facing the Philadelphia Eagles in a highly anticipated rematch of Super Bowl LVII. Kansas City edged out Philly in that thriller, 38-35, and history favors them again--teams that won the first matchup in a Super Bowl rematch hold a 6-2 record.

This game also features a rare quarterback rematch, with Patrick Mahomes looking to continue the trend of previous winners going 2-0. Similarly, head coaches Andy Reid and Nick Sirianni meet again, and past patterns suggest Reid holds the advantage.

Kansas City's offensive line will have its hands full with Philadelphia's top-ranked defense, led by dominant tackle Jalen Carter. The Chiefs may counter with quick es, allowing Mahomes to spread the ball around. Travis Kelce remains a key target, needing just three catches to sur Jerry Rice for most Super Bowl receptions.

The Eagles, however, have a game-changer in Saquon Barkley, who's been unstoppable in the playoffs. Kansas City's defense must contain him to force Jalen Hurts to win with his arm.

Philadelphia Eagles vs Kansas City Chiefs live updates, Super Bowl LIX at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, LA:

And so ends the 2024 NFL season, with the Philadelphia Eagles dethroning the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX. In seven months, we'll do it all over again, when the 2025 NFL season kicks off with the Eagles looking to defend their title, the Chiefs looking to get it back, and contenders like the Bills, Ravens, Lions, and Commanders all hoping to get their shot at hoisting one of the most famous trophies in sports.

Thank you following along with Marca English as we brought you live coverage of Super Bowl LIX. Have a great night!

The Eagles' QB completed 17 of his 22 es and ed for 293 total yards to go with three total touchdowns and one interception.

Philly's dominant defense

EAGLES 40, CHIEFS 22

This is how it ends for the Chiefs. Kansas City's dreams of a Super Bowl three-peat have been dashed in New Orleans, as Patrick Mahomes and the AFC champs' offense never really got going until the score was out of hand. The Chiefs failed to protect Mahomes for most of the night, and they will head back to Missouri deeply disappointed with the result -- while star tight end Travis Kelce could seriously contemplate retirement.

For the Eagles, this is pure elation. After watching anchor Jason Kelce retire following an early playoff exit in 2023, Philadelphia retooled its coaching staff and added star running back Saquon Barkley before entering the playoffs as NFC East champions. Philly got revenge on Kansas City for its loss in Super Bowl LVII, building a 34-0 lead behind a ferocious defensive effort and the playmaking of likely Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts. There is a new champion in the NFL!

Super Bowl LIX is almost here, and the excitement is palpable as the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles gear up for their showdown this Sunday at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. ET, and fans are eagerly waiting to see these two powerhouse teams battle it out on the field.

For Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid, this game is another opportunity to cement his legacy as one of the NFL's all-time greats. Having already led the team to a three Super Bowl victories, another win would not only add to his impressive resume but also solidify his place among coaching legends. Reid has been a key factor in the Chiefs' success, especially when it comes to maximizing the talents of star quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

On the other side, Eagles Head Coach Nick Sirianni is looking to make history of his own. Sirianni's journey to the NFL is a testament to hard work and perseverance. Starting from his roots in Div. III football at Mount Union, he's climbed the ranks to become one of the league's most promising coaches.

Both teams boast not only incredible talent but also coaching staffs with diverse backgrounds. Take Chiefs' defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, for example. His defensive strategies have been a cornerstone of the Chiefs' success, proving that games aren't won by offense alone.

Of course, the spotlight isn't just on the quarterbacks. Players like Saquon Barkley, Travis Kelce and Chris Jones will play crucial roles in determining the outcome of the game. Their performances will remind us that football is a team sport, and victories are built on the contributions of every player on the field.

Kickoff for the Super Bowl LIX at Caesars Superdome is scheduled for 6:30 PM ET.
